COVID-19 Bulletin: May 19, 2020

Dear Patients,
We hope this letter finds you and your loved ones in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.
Our office is open starting May 19th. We have been carefully planning our return so that we may continue to serve your dental needs and to see each one of you.
To begin, we will prioritize emergencies and non-aerosol generating procedures (procedures that do not involve the use of handpieces, air-water syringes and ultrasonic scalers). Such procedures include examination, X-ray, orthodontic adjustments, simple extractions and temporary fillings. Full dental services, including hygiene care, will be introduced gradually. If you do not receive a call right away, please rest assured you will be contacted, and our team is working hard behind the scenes to allocate time for all of our valued patients.
Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. In response to COVID-19, we have spent the last few months putting together additional infection control processes so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.
Our office adheres to the infection control recommendations made by the College of Dental Surgeons and BC Centre for Disease Control. We will follow the activities of these agencies closely so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We have also taken into consideration information from the Canadian Dental Association, as well as keeping close tabs on emerging epidemiological research findings.
You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:
Our office will communicate with you before each appointment to ask some screening questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the office. We will email you a consent form to bring to your appointment.
Whenever possible, please wait in your vehicle and we will contact you when your appointment is ready to begin.
We have a contactless hand sanitizer dispenser that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. Your temperature will also be taken in a contactless manner.
You may see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth since those items are difficult to disinfect.
Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
We will allow greater time between patients to reduce the number of patients in the office at any one time.
We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every other patient, safe in our practice. To make an appointment, please call our office at 604-538-2200 or visit our website at www.southsurreydentist.com.
Thank you for trusting us with your dental health. We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to welcoming back our patients, neighbors and friends.
Sincerely,
Dr. Yiping Song and team
