SERVICES

"Helping you achieve the smile you want is one of the most rewarding aspects of my practice. Seeing a patient leave with an ear-to-ear smile after having entered barely showing any teeth at all really makes my day." - Dr. Rand Barker

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Dr. Barker provides emergency services for all his patients. On the rare occasion that Dr. Barker is not available community dental emergency services are available through the Peace Arch Hospital at 604-531 5512

HYGIENE

Our hygiene department is here to help you maintain a bright, attractive, healthy smile. Good oral habits and healthy gums are critical to maintaining your teeth throughout your life. Current research has revealed that an unhealthy mouth increases the risk of serious systemic disease.

PREVENTATIVE SERVICES

All our staff are trained to educate the patient on the best oral care techniques to maintain a healthy mouth and minimize treatment needs.

ORAL CANCER SCREENING

Oral cancer is three times more common than cervical cancer and has twice the death rate. All patients receive a visual and tactile oral exam to screen for oral cancer. Dr. Barker also has available a cutting edge oral cancer screening tool, the VELscope, which allows visualization of oral lesions not apparent under normal light.

RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

A great first step towards achieving that healthy smile is to replace any old, defective fillings and eliminating decay. Dr. Barker has extensive experience in the latest techniques for replacing old fillings and repairing the damage caused by decay. Many tooth coloured options are now available.

Dr. Barker’s experience and training allow him to fabricate both conventional and high quality precision attachment partial dentures. This service provides his valued patients with the finest possible treatment outcome using a removable device.

  • Crowns and Bridges are used to restore broken, cracked, missing or weak teeth. This allows the patient to eat properly and can greatly improve the aesthetics of any smile.
  • Crowns, made from gold alloy, porcelain fused to gold or porcelain alone, are used to restore severely broken down, cracked or weakened root canal treated teeth.
  • Bridges are used to replace missing teeth. A bridge is two crowns attached to one or more artificial teeth that fill the space left by a missing tooth.
  • Porcelain Veneers provide exquisite aesthetics and are often used to improve a smile by straightening teeth, making them whiter, and by improving their shape. Porcelain veneers are like contact lenses that are bonded to the front of your teeth to make the desired improvements

Dr. Barker takes great pride in offering only the highest quality restorative dentistry. Local master craftsmen create all restorations using the very finest materials available.  Partial Dentures are often the most economical way of replacing multiple missing teeth with one removable device. These dentures can be used to restore a smile as well as allow the patient to enjoy the foods they crave.

IMPLANT THERAPY

Mini Dental Implants
Loose ill-fitting dentures are a constant source of pain, discomfort or irritation.
Mini dental implants can be used to stabilize those “floating” lower dentures or provide retention for upper dentures so that the palate of the denture can be removed allowing the patient’s tongue to touch the roof of their again and the patient to taste their food properly.

Conventional Dental Implants
Conventional implants are used as “artificial roots” that allows the independent replacement of missing teeth.

Teaming with respected Oral Surgeons or Periodontists who place the implants, which are then expertly restored by Dr. Barker, completes conventional implant therapy

ROOT CANAL THERAPY

Almost nothing can send shivers up your back quite like the words “ROOT CANAL”. In reality it is only about 5% of root canals that cause pain. The vast majority of root canals alleviate pain and are a welcome relief to suffering patients. Root canal therapy is used to ease the pain caused by highly inflamed pulp tissue in the tooth or by bacteria that have contaminated a pulp that has died. This treatment is used to remove the diseased or dead pulp and nerve tissue from the tooth. The inside of the tooth is then sterilized and filled. One of the most important aspects of treatment is to seal the tooth from bacterial recontamination. This is done with a high quality filling or a crown in the case of molars and premolars.
